The software-only solution runs on zIIP engines, uses DFDSS as the data mover, coexists with all legacy backup management products (such as IBM DFSMShsm, CA-DISK and FDR/ABR) and supports storage vendors and cloud providers including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud.

Start-up Model9 was co-founded in 2016 in Tel Aviv, Israel, by its CEO Gil Peleg who was formerly in storage development at Infinidat for two years and eight months, after six years in mainframe systems and storage development at IBM.
It offers a solution to backup, restore, archive and recall all z/OS data sets and volume types, including Unix files, space management, encryption, reporting and bare-metal recovery.
The company raised two rounds (amounts not disclosed), the latest one on December 1, 2017 from a seed round, from Investors StageOne and North First Ventures partners.
