Finnish IT Center for Science CSC to Deploy Mellanox

200GB HDR IB to accelerate multi-phase HPC program

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced that its 200 Gigabit HDR IB solutions were selected to accelerate a multi-phase supercomputer system by CSC, the Finnish IT center for science.

The new supercomputers, set to be deployed in 2019 and 2020, will serve the Finnish researchers in universities and research institutes, enhancing climate, renewable energy, astrophysics, nanomaterials and bioscience, among a wide range of exploration activities. The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) will have their own separate partition for diverse simulation tasks ranging from ocean fluxes to atmospheric modeling and space physics.

CSC selected the HDR IB interconnect solution for its fast data throughout low latency, smart In-Netwok Computing acceleration engines, and enhanced Dragonfly network topology. These advantages will provide CSC and FMI users with HPC and AI application performance, scalability and efficiency.

200Gb HDR IB In-Network Computing acceleration engines provide performance, scalability, efficiency and resiliency for HPC and AI applications. For example, Mellanox Scalable Hierarchical Aggregation and Reduction Protocol (SHARP) technology enables the execution of data algorithms on the data as it traverses within the network, and Mellanox SHIELD technology enables self-healing interconnect capabilities. These advantages, together with its high data throughput and low latency, make IB the preferred interconnect choice for HPCs.
