Fastest SSDs at Maximum of 3GB/s Read Transfer Rate and More

67 units listed

As we wrote yesterday, we keep a list of all the SSDs announced since 1991 representing 1,252 units with their main specs.

Here below are 67 of them with a read transfer rate of 3GB/s and more, but not all of them are available.

The first one on the top of the list, from Seagate, never appears on the market, the 64TB at 13GB/s – both records in the industry – and was only a demo presented at Flash Memory Summit in 2017 but never offered.

HDDs are much slower. For example, the Seagate Exos 15,000rpm enterprise 12Gb SAS 900GB HDD has a transfer rate between 215MB/s and 315MB/s. Access time of these rotating devices is measured in milliseconds, SSDs in microseconds and they don’t support NVMe being massively adapted by SSDs as well as coming NVMe-oF.

SSDs also can sustain much more IO/s, for example 840,000 IO/s in random read and 140,000 IO/s in random write at 4KB for the Micron 9200, 1.2 million read IO/s for the Ultrastar NVMe SSD series from Western Digital that decided to stop next year enterprise HDDs unable to compete with SSDs.
