Highest Capacity SSDs, at 10TB and More

29 units listed

We keep a list of all the SSDs announced since 1991 representing 1,252 units with their main specs.

Here below are all of them with a capacity of 10TB and more, but not all of them are available.

The first two ones, from Seagate, never appear on the market, the 64TB was only a demo presented at Flash Memory Summit in 2017, the 60TB SAS SSD was a also demonstration technology, anticipated for some time in 2017 but never offered.

Many of them have a greater capacity than highest capacity HDDs (16TB, 3.5-inch).

At a time, some manufacturers revealed SSDs in 3.5-inch form factor but nobody continues in this big volume. Most of them now are using 2.5-inch form factor or PCIe cards.

In term of interfaces, they can be found now with 12Gb SAS, 6Gb STA and PCIe NVMe with significant performance improvement, and NVMe-oF is coming.

New technology promised extra layers and QLC (4 bits/cell) using 64-layer flash into TLC (3 bits/cell). But there are plans to move to 96-layer flash and more, meaning that there is a lot of possibility to increase the SSD capacity in the future.

Prices of 3D NAND chips, and consequently SSDs, decline this year and this trend will probably continues in 2019. But for more than 10TB, SSDs continue to be very expansive and HDDs are unbeatable.
