Toshiba Unveils 10TB S300 Video Surveillance HDD and 3TB Video Stream HDD Series

Up to 7,200rpm with maximum data transfer speed of 248 MB/s, and up to 180TB/year for S300 Surveillance HDD

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) announces two surveillance and video streaming HDDs to the consumer internal lineup, the S300 and V300.

S300 HDD series comes in green surveillance label,
and  V300 HDD series in blue video streaming label

The S300 surveillance HDD series is available in capacities up to 10TB (1) and offers support for up to 64 high definition camera (2) streams. The V300 Video Stream HDD series is available in capacities up to 3TB and suited for all entry level recording and streaming for the home.

The S300 Surveillance HDD series offer 24/7 reliability and performance with cache size up to 256MB. It performs at up to 7,200rpm with a maximum data transfer speed (3) of 248 MB/s (4).

Additionally, the S300 comes with built-in RV sensors to help suppress vibrations in multi HDD platforms. Available in up to 10TB capacities, this surveillance HDD can handle high workloads up to 180TB/year (5) and supports surveillance network video recorders (sNVR), surveillance digital video recorders (sDVR), hybrid sDVR (analog and IP) and RAID storage arrays for surveillance.

The V300 Video Streaming HDD series are designed for reliable video recording and playback, and offers built-in silent seek technology, which results in a quiet operation. It low spin design reduces energy consumption by up to 25% (6). Available in up to 3TB capacities, the V300 HDD supports video editing systems, set-top-box (STB), digital video recorders (DVR) and network video recorders (NVR).

In addition to these HDD models, the company introduces new color branding for each category in the consumer internal HDD lineup. The new category colors will be displayed on the drive labels and retail shelf packaging to communicate the HDD category’s use case and device application. The S300 HDD series comes in a green surveillance label, and the V300 HDD series in a blue video streaming label. The consumer friendly, easy-to-identify color-coded drive labels and retail shelf packaging makes it easy for consumers to shop for the drive they need.

Toshiba is refreshing the consumer HDD branding to make internal HDDs more consumer friendly and easier to shop for the right application,” said Michael Cassidy, VP, consumer HDDs, Americas, TEAC. “By entering the surveillance market with a robust lineup of high performance and high reliability HDD models targeted for the consumer market, Toshiba is offering a drive for every storage application.

The company continues to expand product offerings with higher storage capacity and performance. The S300 and V300 HDDs further illustrate the firm’s efforts to continue offering drives for every consumer storage application from PC, gaming, NAS, and now surveillance and video streaming.

The S300 and V300 will be available in April 2018.

(1) Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines 1MB as 1,000,000 bytes, 1GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer OS, however, reports storage capacity using powers of two for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and OS, such as Microsoft OS and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
(2) Number of surveillance cameras support capability is defined by performance simulation with high definition cameras at 10Mbit/s rate. Actual results may vary based on various factors, including the types of cameras installed, the system’s hardware and software capabilities, and the video compression technology used, as well as system variables such as resolution, frames per second, and other settings.
(3) Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.
(4) This specification is for the S300 10TB model.
(5) Workload is a measure of the data throughout of the year, and it is defined as the amount of data written, read or verified by commands from the host system.
