MDwise Customer of Online Tech
For solution that would retain and archive data compliant with federal HIPAA regulations
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 17, 2017 at 2:31 pmOnline Tech, LLC has been selected as the data protection vendor of choice for MDWise, Inc., an Indiana-based company that specializes in providing healthcare companies to families in need and covers more than 350,000 members for the state of Indiana.
Stringent laws in Indiana require all healthcare related information to be stored for at least 7 years, and in some cases, 10 years. MDwise was looking for a solution that would retain and archive their data in a way that was effective, accessible, and compliant with federal HIPAA regulations.
According to John Goerges, director of IT, MDwise, they needed a new HIPAA compliant backup and DR solution that would allow them to grow their data footprint without increasing storage size and costs. He found a solution with Online Tech’s Data Protection as a Service (OT DPaaS).
OT DPaaS restores large files faster and more frequently than traditional backup, with no proprietary deduplication of data. In addition, clients can choose their own backup windows, and data is retrievable within hours rather than days. MDwise also paired OT DPaaS with their DR as a Service solution, giving them a strong BC strategy.
“We chose Online Tech because we’re a very data driven company, and we have a need for security and HIPAA compliancy-that was a big thing for us,” Goerges said. “We chose them because of the efficiency of their solutions, fully redundant data center, cost, and most importantly, their focus on compliance.“
Online Tech has been independently audited with 100% compliance of the Health and Human services HIPAA standards since 2011. Keeping with their culture of compliance, Online Tech also regularly reports against PCI DSS, SSAE16/SOC 1, and SOC 2 safeguards.
“MDwise is doing a wonderful service to uninsured patients, and we are excited to be able to help them carry out their mission,” said Jason Yaeger, VP of business development and strategic solutions, Online Tech. “Our Data Protection as a Service will provide them with the backups, security, and availability their patients demand.“
Goerges said he was pleased with service, protection and compliancy he has gotten from Online Tech.
“We have the assurance with the backups that we aren’t locked in to one product anymore,” he said. “We don’t have any concerns about the ability to store our backups or having to purchase new hardware. We know our data is protected per HIPAA standards, because it’s encrypted at rest and in motion. If we need to retrieve from long term data archiving, it’s in the cloud, so it’s retrievable in hours or minutes rather than days because we’re waiting for an offsite vendor to deliver external HDDs.“
