Box Expanding Box Zones to Britain

Powered by IBM Cloud

Box, Inc., in cloud content management, announced that Box Zones is launching in London and Frankfurt, powered by IBM Cloud.

Leveraging the IBM Cloud for the first time, the new Box Zones offering in London, UK, backed up in Frankfurt, Germany, helps businesses centralize content and enhance productivity, while addressing local storage requirements.

We’re seeing significant demand for Box Zones from customers in Europe who want greater flexibility over where their data is stored. As international regulations and demands continue to become more complex, our ability to help enterprises move to the cloud and simplify their content management strategy is incredibly valuable,” said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO, Box. “With Box Zones we’re able to serve a much larger international customer base, including reaching organizations in the most security-conscious industries.

Box customers will have increased flexibility and control over their data by choosing where it is stored. London and Frankfurt on the IBM Cloud join Box’s existing network of Box Zones; customers can choose to store their data in Germany, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and Canada.

Today’s announcement continues to deepen the strong collaboration between IBM and Box in Europe, with IBM Cloud powering the first implementation of Box Zones in the UK,” said John Morris, GM, cloud object storage, IBM Corp.. “Using Box Zones, businesses will soon have the ability to tap into IBM’s global network of cloud data centers to store their data in-country with Box Zones – whether for performance, regulatory or security reasons.

Box Zones will leverage IBM’s Cloud Object Storage services to store and manage its customers’ increasing volumes of unstructured data locally via the IBM Cloud.

Regional storage requirements and data handling regulations are becoming ever more complex with the upcoming GDPR mandates,” said Duncan Brown, associate VP, European security, International Data Corporation. “European businesses will be looking for flexibility and more options from their service providers for storing business content that complies with upcoming EU regulations.

Launched in 2016, Box Zones joins other Box services, such as Box KeySafe and Box Governance, to provide customers with choice and flexibility for managing their most important information. In addition, compliance certifications, including binding corporate rules and privacy shield, allow organizations to have confidence in data privacy as it moves across international borders.
