Like HGST/WD, Seagate With 12TB Enterprise 3.5-Inch Helium HDD
To be available in June quarter of 2017
By Jean Jacques Maleval | March 10, 2017 at 2:36 pmAt OCP Summit 2017 in Santa Clara, CA, March 8-9, Seagate Technology announced plan to start volume shipping a 12TB helium enterprise drives for production availability in the June quarter of 2017, after its 10TB units.
The Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD offers low power consumption and weight. The drive can accommodate 550TB workloads annually aand is designed to operate 24/7 for 5 years.
Western Digital/WD already announces last December a very similar drive, the Ultrastar He12, with about the same specs: 12TB, same form factor, helium based, 6Gb SATA, 7,200rpm, 2.5 million MTBF, maximum transfer rate of 255MB/s (249 and 261MB/s for Seagate), data buffer of 256MB, operating consumption of 7.2W (7.8 to 9.3W for Seagate), 660 grams (650 grams for Seagate), 5-year limited warranty, availability supposed to be 2H17.
