Pixit Media Provided Storage for Project With UR, Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company
1.3PB of central NAS and online DR system
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 21, 2016 at 2:38 pmPixit Media, in software-defined storage for media workflows, announced the award of a major project with UR, Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company.
UR is part of the public service broadcasting group in Sweden, with Swedish Radio (SR) and Swedish Television (SVT). UR’s mandate is to produce and broadcast educational and general-knowledge programs that enhance, fill out, and strengthen the work of others active in education.
Earlier this year, along with its system integrator partner AVIT-Systems, part of AV INVEST I AS, UR began to evaluate replacements for its legacy Apple-based storage infrastructure. UR was looking for a scalable solution with guaranteed performance criteria and flexibility for growth.
Having looked at the major contenders, UR established that Pixit Media offered the most versatile solution. Being that UR is a public broadcaster, a tender process followed, with Pixit Media proving to be cost-effective as well as the best overall technical solution.
The project encompasses Pixit Media’s PixStor scale-out NAS, harnessing the powerful Spectrum Scale file system and NetApp E-Series SAS storage to provide 1.3PB of central NAS storage and an online DR system for UR’s 50+ concurrent Mac-based clients. NetApp E-Series storage arrays provide video bandwidth and reliability.
The system will be installed and commissioned during September 2016.
Andreas Ekvall, senior system manager at UR, was impressed with the Pixit Media approach: “Pixit Media took the time and trouble to really understand our environment and challenges, and then carefully designed a system to meet our requirements instead of trying to shoehorn a solution to fit our needs.“
