Dubai World Trade Centre Protected by Veeam
For critical data and assuring BC
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 23, 2014 at 2:57 pmThe Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) deployed Veeam Backup Management Suite and reduced backup storage consumption by 50% meeting its RTPOs.
Established in 1979, the Dubai World Trade Centre is the UAE’s largest purpose-built events and exhibitions complex. At the center of the Middle East’s business tourism, each year the facility creates 25,000 jobs and attracts two million visitors. With a continuous series of events on the centre’s calendar, a robust IT infrastructure is a prerequisite. Round-the-clock operations also demand unquestionable levels of availability, timely backups, and efficient use of storage space – all of which were offered by Veeam.
“We considered several solutions but only Veeam Backup Management Suite offered the scalability, flexibility and capacity planning capabilities we needed as a growing enterprise. Backup no longer creates an obstacle. Veeam’s solution provides availability of the entire virtual environment, performing ad hoc backups as often as we want,” said Galal EItahan, senior manager, IT operations, IT, DWTC.
Veeam backups every VM in DWTC’s production and R&D environments to onsite storage daily. Its built-in deduplication and compression ensures that backups utilize half the storage that legacy backups required, which saves DWTC nearly $5,500 each year. With Veeam meeting RTPOs is fast and easy. For example, Instant VM Recovery recovers a failed VM as well as OS files and application from a regular backup in minutes.
“Veeam recovery saves us significant time and facilitates BC,” Eltahan continued. “After we applied a security patch to one of our applications, the application failed to work properly. We recovered the application from a backup in minutes and continued with business as usual.“
Veeam monitoring and reporting tool verifies that DWTC`s VMs are configured for backups and assesses backup repository capacity requirements. It enables visibility due to prebuilt alerts, real-time monitoring, advanced reporting and capacity planning. These new capabilities allow DWTC`s 30-member IT team to save time and leverage operational processes, meeting current and future business priorities.
Veeam provides deeper monitoring and more detailed reporting than our previous tool, which helps us quickly identify and resolve incidents before they affect users,” Eltahan said. “With Veeam, it’s easy to see the cause of a bottleneck and check load balancing among hosts. Veeam also helps us with capacity planning, enabling assessment of system utilization and overall performance of each VM, which gives a clear indication for optimizing resources to ensure system health.”
Veeam helped the DWTC modernise their data availability strategy while protecting their investment in the latest virtualization, cloud and storage technologies that modern data centers are built on. DWTC managed to increase administrator productivity and mitigate daily management risks.
