Altiscale Debuts Hadoop-as-a-Service
Delivers complete operations support.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 13, 2014 at 2:54 pmAltiscale, Inc. announced the availability of the Altiscale Data Cloud, a cloud service purpose-built to run Apache Hadoop.
The company and its team of Hadoop pioneers have leveraged their expertise to create a Hadoop as a Service (HaaS) offering that frees customers from the burdens of deploying, managing, or scaling Apache Hadoop.
“Our big data implementation is critical to us in helping our restaurant partners deliver fantastic personalized service to diners around the world,” said Joseph Essas, CTO, OpenTable, Inc. “Altiscale enables us to manage hundreds of terabytes of data without dedicated operational support. In fact, we were able to implement our entire Hadoop deployment in just a few days.“
It is a ‘purpose-built’ Hadoop cloud.
It provides features including:
- Hadoop Dialtone – Hadoop data and compute that’s always on and available. And with reliability backed by an enterprise SLA
- ‘Infinite‘ Hadoop – Auto-elasticity monitors data and job usage to provide the capacity you need, when you need it.
- Proactive Hadoop Helpdesk – The team not only manages the platform but also monitors jobs to keep even applications running smoothly. Our customers can think of our team of experts as their Hadoop operations team.
- Predictable Pricing – The company provides its customers with predictable monthly bills, making it easier to manage budgets.
These benefits are a result of the purpose-built cloud. The company operates its own hardware, selected and configured for the demands of Hadoop. On top of that they curate, configure, and operate the Hadoop stack, keeping it up-to-date to track the latest from the ecosystem. The team of Hadoop veterans from Yahoo has years of experience operating some large-scale Hadoop clusters in the world for applications.
“While there are many cloud service providers with infrastructure for rent and many companies with their own take on Hadoop, Altiscale is blending their expertise in both areas to offer a well-run, up-to-date, elastic operational environment for big data,” said Nik Rouda, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “Their proactive help on monitoring active jobs will be handy for technical users, and their smoother pricing model should please the financial team.“
“We believe that HaaS will eventually dominate the market,” said Raymie Stata, CEO, Altiscale. “The reason is straightforward: firms should be focused on using Hadoop effectively, not wrestling with the infrastructure and operational challenges required to run it well. At Altiscale, you can be up and running in a day, and scale from development to production instantly, paying only for the resources you use.“
