Fusion-io Solutions Showed by Cisco, Dell, HP and IBM
At VMworld 2013
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on August 26, 2013 at 2:46 pmFusion-io, Inc. will be showcasing how its technology accelerates the value of virtualization in integrated solutions from Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM and VMware in the Fusion-io Performance Cafe at VMworld 2013 in San Francisco, CA.
"Fusion-io server systems vendors and customers worldwide know they can rely on ioMemory to provide leading application acceleration for successful virtualized infrastructure deployments," said Sean Hehir, Fusion-io VP of strategic business development. "With the unique Fusion ioMemory architecture, IT teams can achieve accelerated performance for even data-intensive virtualization workloads to deliver excellent user experience without costly storage sprawl. As ioMemory-based products are available directly from leaders like Cisco, Dell, IBM and HP, enterprises can easily accelerate their virtualization workloads with servers and shared storage infrastructure that meets the unique needs of their organization."
Cisco Systems, Inc. offers the Cisco UCS Fusion-io ioDrive2 Adapter for accelerating virtualization and desktop infrastructure (VDI) applications. In the guide, Cisco UCS SmartPlay Configurations for VMware Desktop Virtualization Workloads and the Cisco UCS Storage Accelerator VDI white paper, Cisco outlines how offloading a portion of storage I/O in the server with UCS Storage Accelerators improves predictable performance for scaling VDI with a lower cost per desktop for storage and lower overall costs compared to traditional shared-storage approaches.
Enterprises accelerating their virtualized infrastructure with Dell, Inc.‘s solutions and Fusion-io are achieving performance. US online health products retailer Vitacost.com accelerated the applications that power and analyze its website, featuring over 40,000 products, with Fusion-io solutions from Dell. The Vitacost solution lead by Rudy Dellafiore, Vitacost director of IT, included ioTurbine virtualization caching software and vSphere installed on Dell ESXi servers. Fusion ION Data Accelerator software transformed ioMemory on a single Dell R720 appliance into a read cache for the ESXi servers.
With its solution, Vitacost found that it was able to achieve increased performance over its previous system, enabling a faster website experience for online customers and more analytics information for business intelligence.
In addition to powering enterprise customer results, Dell recently posted its best VMmark score to date – an 80% improvement over its previous VMmark benchmark – with ION Data Accelerator software.
With Fusion Powered solutions including the HP PCIe IO Accelerators and ION Data Accelerator software, Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP recently secured three number one VMmark virtualization benchmarks in a two processor ProLiant DL380 server, a four processor ProLiant DL560 server and a ProLiant DL980 eight processor server system. Using the VMmark 2.5 benchmark, HP showcased its expertise in common platform-level workloads such as live migration of VMs, cloning and deploying VMs, and automatic VM load balancing across the data center for customers’ virtualization needs.
IBM Corp. recently announced that it is now offering its FlashCache Storage Accelerator, based on ioTurbine caching software solutions for virtual and bare metal caching, across its System x servers, BladeCenter servers and Flex System servers.
"Fusion-io is known for flash-powered acceleration, and the wide range of server solutions for applications running on vSphere makes it simple for enterprises to achieve high performance virtualized infrastructure," said Sanjay Katyal, VP, global alliances and OEMs, VMware, Inc. "Performance is important for virtual environments, so having simple, integrated options for leading server solutions featuring vSphere and Fusion ioMemory can help enterprises be successful in virtualizing data-heavy workloads."
Integrated into industry standard x86 servers, ioMemory supports multiple OSs, including vSphere, Windows, and Linux, and can be purchased from server systems vendors including Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM and resellers worldwide. ioMemory integrates with existing shared back end storage as well as the ION Data Accelerator and the ioControl hybrid storage solution.
