For IDC
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 29, 2013 at 2:50 pmNetApp, Inc. has been named a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Scale-Out File-Based Storage 2012 Vendor Analysis (doc #238923, December 2012).
IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Scale-Out
File-Based Storage Vendor Assessment
The IDC Corp.‘s study assessed the leading vendors in the storage market and analyzed each vendor’s ability to provide appliance-based, scale-out file-based storage. According to IDC, scale-out architectures enable businesses to linearly scale capacity and performance independent of each other while keeping management simple and costs low.
NetApp’s position as a leader is a result of the vision and capabilities of the clustered Data ONTAP architecture, a unified scale-out storage solution for an adaptable, always-on storage infrastructure. It enables HA storage platforms to operate a shared pool of resources, offering scalability and performance, simplified management, and the capability to transparently migrate application data.
According to the report, "NetApp’s scale-out file-based solution, clustered Data ONTAP, is different from other market alternatives that leverage a host-based distributed file system. Because of this approach, NetApp has an advantage over its competitors whose platforms based on distributed file systems lacked mature support block storage, storage optimization features, and server virtualization … With 8.1.1 of ONTAP, NetApp has further improved its clustering capabilities while adding new features such as virtual storage tiering, transparent data migration, nondisruptive operations, embedded flash acceleration, and support for very large content containers and scale clusters."
"NetApp’s position as a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Scale-Out File-Based Storage is validation of our vision and ability to innovate in the storage marketplace," said Brendon Howe, VP, product and solutions marketing, NetApp. "Organizations struggling to scale their infrastructure are quickly discovering that they need a combination of performance, high availability, and simplified management to meet business goals. Clustered Data ONTAP gives organizations the foundation to adapt as business needs change, while providing the necessary features and reliability expected of an enterprise-class storage solution."
