Zettabyte Combines NAS With Automatic Offsite Backup
Packed with up to 12TB of raw storage
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 26, 2008 at 3:11 pmZettabyte Storage LLC (ZBS) continues to expand its integrated data management solutions with the announcement of the Zettabits Datacenter Edition (DCE). This newest member of its Zettabits family of managed storage and online backup products is packed with up to 12TB of raw storage space, dedicated backup processing hardware, and includes Zettabits proprietary External Share Synchronization (ESS) software. The DCE provides small and mid-sized IT departments with a powerful and cost effective new way to effortlessly integrate enterprise class storage and fast, secure backups into their existing infrastructure.
"Maintaining high-quality backups of large quantities of data is an expensive and time consuming endeavor in today’s data storage market," said Vietor Davis, CEO of ZBS. "Despite being a sound business practice, and mandated in many industries, companies are currently left to choose between incurring the time and maintenance costs of using an archaic or in-house backup strategy, or suffering the significant expense forced upon them by the current offsite backup market. We’re changing that with the release of the DCE."
Designed using the same principles as Zettabyte’s other lines of storage servers, the Datacenter Edition integrates with an existing network as a simple but powerful NAS device, providing both public and private network shares. Unlike your average NAS however, the new DCE takes the next important step by integrating the powerful Zettabits zVault backup system, which automatically provides complete offsite backups of any locally stored or ESS synchronized data, thus enabling the easy addition of offsite backups to any existing network or business process.
Zettabits Datacenter Edition’s hardware, the zBox, is a compact 2U chassis, packed full with powerful hardware in addition to its primary 12-disk SATA storage array, including two dual-core AMD Opteron processors, 8GB of DDR2 RAM, and an internal 15,000 RPM SAS RAID-1 dedicated backup processing array. This powerful hardware guarantees ample computing resources for serving NAS data at full gigabit speeds while simultaneously allowing complete zVault protection of data. Redundant power and network connections, hot-swappable disks in the primary RAID-10 storage array, ECC RAM and soft CPU fault detection combine to give the DCE the outstanding reliability and continuity of service that define an enterprise class product.
zVault leverages the dedicated processing power of the zBox to perform extensive backup validation and data transfer optimization, maximizing the integrity of your backups while substantially reducing the network overhead required by alternative, and less computationally intensive, backup techniques. Data security has been built in from the ground up, and zVault uses the US MIL standard AES-256 data encryption for the protection of all archived data, ensuring that your data is securely encrypted before it ever leaves the safety of the zBox and your local network.
Complementing these core technical features are a host of additional management and security features designed to result in direct and substantial reductions in overhead and maintenance costs. Centered around zCPR (Zero Cost Proactive Replacement), highlights include:
- completely zero cost replacement of any hardware which shows signs of upcoming failure, before that predicted failure occurs;
- automatic 24/7 remote monitoring and maintenance; and
- integration into ZBS’ security and feature update service. Combined with the DCE’s core feature set of zBox and zVault, this makes the DCE a compelling addition to any organization in need of fast, secure and reliable Terabyte scale data backup.
Price and Availability
The full line of DCE options are available immediately under ZBS’ standard flat-rate pricing plans, starting at $999 per month for the 1TB solution.
Comments
There is no relation between Zettabyte Storage, a storage provider, and Zetta, a start-up in stealth mode supposed to be in cloud storage solutions for enterprises, or Zetta Systems, a data protection software company sold to Overland in 2005.
