Taneja Group Evaluates AMI StorTrends 3500i Hybrid Storage SSD Array
"Comprehensive, versatile and cost effective"
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 30, 2014 at 2:53 pmAmerican Megatrends Inc. (AMI) announced that The Taneja Group, Inc. has recognized the StorTrends 3500i Hybrid Storage SSD Array as “one of the most comprehensive, versatile and cost effective solid state systems on the market today.”
In the Taneja Group’s December 2013 Technology Validation report, StorTrends 3500i Solid State Performance for Everyday Business – the research firm recounts results of its hands-on lab evaluation which validates the system’s high performance in real-world application environments.
“We observed in our hands-on Technology Validation of the StorTrends 3500i array that AMI has crafted SSD into a mature, field-proven, and well-architected storage system. With a comprehensive set of storage features and an intriguingly flexible ability to integrate SSDs with the StorTrends cache and tiering architecture, the 3500i showed us that it is ready to deliver superb performance, extreme versatility, and serious value for mid-range storage customers,” said Taneja Group senior analyst Jeff Boles when asked about the report. “The NetNet is there is no need to look for alternatives to make solid state more affordable and practical for the mainstream – with the AMI StorTrends 3500i, it is clearly here.”
The Taneja Group report shares how the research firm evaluated the StorTrends 3500i by performing a variety of tests across several StorTrends 3500i configurations. Specifically, it set out to validate the performance claims, DDS resiliency and how SSDs are integrated and used to create a complete storage solution that is right-sized in performance and capacity. The validation report also evaluated the solution’s virtual infrastructure capabilities.
Additional areas covered include:
- Description of the StorTrends architecture
- The uses of StorTrends SSD
- An evaluation of the StorTrends adaptive tiering functionality
- An overview of the StorTrends wear leveling and reporting capabilities
“As the Taneja Group identifies, SSD has a new role in today’s mid-size enterprise,” said Justin Bagby, director, StorTrends division, AMI. “The demand for higher performance at lower costs continues to grow, and we have risen to the challenge with the new StorTrends 3500i. Now enterprises of all sizes can achieve the agility, reliability and performance they demand at a price point that easily integrates into existing budgets. These benefits combined with feature-rich capabilities including HA, WAN-optimized replication, thin provisioning, snapshots, auto-tiering and more, make the new StorTrends 3500i the ideal choice for even the most demanding environments.”
The StorTrends 3500i Hybrid Storage SSD Array features an embedded storage architecture, the StorTrends iTX, to offer an all-inclusive set of features including Volume-level QoS, Automated Data Tiering and built-in replication with WAN optimization. These features, together with the combination of SSD and HDD technology in a 3U configuration, deliver up to 56TB of raw storage capacity and expansion capacity of up to 256TB. The SAN storage solution features hot-swappable dual controllers with active/active or active/passive HA and redundant, hot-swappable power supply units.
