Emerging RisingTide Announces MediaCStor
Storage system to play 1000 HD videos from device the size of 1U pizza box
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 28, 2011 at 3:31 pmRisingTide Systems, an emerging provider of high-performance storage systems, released its MediaCStor data storage platform that was shown at Interop in Las Vegas in May.
The MediaCStor is RTS’ newest generation of data storage systems that sets a new standard for performance, density and cost in data storage systems.
The RTS MediaCStor offers a 1U high-density storage system that delivers video play-out of more than 1,000 concurrent HD streams. The system is based on a 5.2 TB Fusion-io, Inc. ioDrive Octal PCIe flash-based storage memory card as backstore, one or more Mellanox Technologies ConnectX-2 adapters with dual 40Gb/s (QDR) InfiniBand ports for high-speed connectivity, and the high-performance and highly scalable RTS storage software.
The resulting integration of technologies in memory-based computing offers enterprise customers significant server consolidation ratios. The solution eliminates the need for expensive infrastructural systems using disk-based technologies while reducing power and cooling expenses to provide a greener platform to high-speed data processing and delivery.
Dynamic data delivery that meets current demands, on any device, at any place, at any time, requires ever increasing processing efficiencies and storage densities. High-density, high-performance and highly scalable data storage memory and data delivery are thus at the core of our current media and data rich lifestyles and economies.
"We are excited that RisingTide software, together with Fusion-io ioDrive Octal flash storage and Mellanox ConnectX-2 InfiniBand adapters, provides ultra-high performance and density shared storage decentralization solutions that enhance enterprise applications, database, virtualization environment and digital media delivery systems," said Marc Fleischmann, CEO of RisingTide Systems.
The MediaCStor storage platform integrates:
- ioDrive Octals from Fusion-io provide the storage memory medium for I/O.
- ConnectX-2 dual-port 40Gb/s InfiniBand adapters from Mellanox deliver enterprise grade I/O over low-latency lossless connectivity.
- RTS storage software and systems provide scalable high-performance data storage and delivery.
- The resulting design reduces hardware complexity, space and weight requirements, thereby increasing data storage density, while reducing space, power and weight, which cuts CapEx and OpEx.
"We are pleased to collaborate with companies like RisingTide and Mellanox to illustrate how our technologies can be combined to address some of today’s most demanding IT environments," said Tyler Smith, Vice President of Alliances for Fusion-io. "The new MediaCStor appliance offers enterprise customers a compelling solution for data-intensive activities."
"As data volume continues to grow, the ability of an organization to store and retrieve data in a timely and efficient manner will generate competitive and economic advantages," said Motti Beck, director of solutions marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "Utilizing Mellanox’s performance-leading 40Gb/s InfiniBand adapters, Fusion-io storage memory cards and RisingTide’s SAN systems and software, we believe the MediaCStor appliance delivers a powerful solution for IT managers looking to deploy high-speed data and storage processing in their next-generation data center or cloud."
