RainStor Archive App Runs on Teradata Appliance for Hadoop

For fast query access

RainStor, Inc., provider of enterprise archive solutions for big data, has self-certified its Archive App on the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop from Teradata Corp.

Archive App combined with the Appliance for Hadoop enables companies to gain the advantages of both technologies; standards-based query access on data from RainStor with a manageable Hadoop appliance from Teradata. With this combination, customers retain data securely with standards-based query access, gaining the ability to integrate with all Teradata analytic platforms.

The Archive Application on Hadoop builds on RainStor’s established archiving technology to provide SQL:2003 and XQuery support for more complex interactive queries. It also includes HCatalog integration, enabling Teradata customers to run queries against RainStor archives via Hive, Pig and MapReduce.

RainStor’s innovation on a Hadoop-based Archiving Solution is in tune with the needs of the market. RainStor on the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop is suited for enterprises that need to securely retain large volumes of high-value historical data,” said Scott Collins, VP of global alliances, Teradata.

The combination of the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop and RainStor satisfies internal data governance requirements, and also addresses the ongoing demands for business users to analyze years of history with near real-time levels of performance.

Many enterprises need to retain and access large volumes of data for regulatory purposes, and often this data has high value at the record level,” said Mark Cusack, chief architect, RainStor. “With RainStor’s Archive App, customers can retain and manage the life cycle of individual records, and can be assured that the data is easily accessible and secure. The RainStor Archive App transforms the Teradata Appliance for Hadoop into an analytical archive – it is adding real value to the great Hadoop and hardware combination that Teradata provides.

Big data exploitation is becoming increasingly common,” said Phil Howard, Bloor Research International Ltd.But there are management and administrative issues associated with Hadoop. The new Teradata Appliance for Hadoop removes much of the pain associated with Hadoop implementation and management, exploiting the features of Hadoop 2.0. In combination with RainStor’s Analytical Archive, with which it is tightly integrated, this will enable customers to address archiving requirements in an efficient and simplified manner that was not previously possible.
