South Africa Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Selects Mellanox IB
To connect its next-gen petaflop-capable supercomputer
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 27, 2015 at 2:32 pmMellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced that the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in partnership with the Centre for HPC (CHPC), has selected its end-to-end IB solution to connect its next-generation petaflop-capable supercomputer.
CSIR is one of the scientific research and technology development organizations in Africa. CSIR undertakes directed and multidisciplinary research and technology innovation that contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of South Africans.
“CHPC supports users across Africa and hundreds of applications across a broad range of science disciplines from Chemistry, Material Science, Astrophysics, Climate Science, Bioinformatics and more,” said Dr. Happy Sithole, director, CHPC. “Utilizing Mellanox’s IB solution, the Centre will be able to provide Africa’s research community with its first petascale-class supercomputer to support their rapidly increasing computational demands for the entire spectrum of their research.“
The partnership between Mellanox and CHPC goes beyond this project, as CHPC participates in early technology access from Mellanox. Mellanox also supports the Human Capital Development as a key partner in the Student Cluster team at CHPC.
“Large research labs require extremely fast data access for their applications in order to conduct their research more effectively,” said Gilad Shainer, VP marketing, Mellanox. “Mellanox IB solutions deliver highest efficiency and scalability, and will provide CHPC with superior application performance to accommodate the needs of their researchers.“
