SNIA Green Storage Initiative Unveils SNIA Emerald Website
Accessing to power efficiency measurement specs and test results
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 25, 2011 at 2:35 pmThe Storage Networking Industry Association Green Storage Initiative (GSI) announced the availability of a website to support the GSI’s SNIA Emerald program.
The website is presently in beta form to allow vendors and interested parties time to prepare for the forthcoming public release of the SNIA Emerald Power Efficiency Measurement Specification.
The SNIA Emerald program is designed to provide a vendor-neutral power efficiency test measurement specification and a repository for sharing the results of using the specification. Its website will provide the industry with the resources needed to learn about, evaluate, test and submit storage system power usage and efficiency by managing the test results acquired by using the SNIA Emerald Power Efficiency Measurement Specification.
"The Green Storage Initiative is excited to see the culmination of our input and guidance with the availability of this new SNIA Emerald program," said Leah Schoeb, chair of the SNIA Green Storage Initiative. "By providing end-users with a fair and equitable measurement of their storage system power usage and efficiency, the SNIA Emerald program will, over time, help the industry continuously improve the power efficiency of storage systems."
Vendors who use the specification will be allowed to post the results to the central repository and obtain a SNIA Emerald logo for those results. In turn, others can view the test results of various storage systems and an indication of which products have met and undergone the Emerald testing requirements.
