Storage and security, according to NEI's survey
Network Engines, Inc., provider of application platforms, deployment solutions and lifecycle support services for software technology developers and OEMs worldwide, announced the findings from a survey conducted on companies' plans for making the transition to the new Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 Family.
Respondents included those from the storage, security, medical, telecom and network management industries.
Results indicate that nearly 1/3 of all respondents plan to migrate to the Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 Family within the next 12 months, with storage and security among the top industries reporting to make the switch. This includes 40% of the storage companies polled, followed closely by 36% in the security industry, 35% in telecom and 23% in network management. Additionally, 68% of security companies plan on converting to the E5-2600 Family within the next two years, followed closely by 60% in the storage market, approximately 58% in telecom and 44% in network management.
Other findings from the survey include the key perceived benefits of the new Xeon E5-2600 family, the most important of which respondents identified as its dramatic performance increases and improved memory access and speed. Greater power efficiency and stepped-up bandwidth increases were also cited as key considerations, along with the Xeon E5-2600's increased data and infrastructure security.
Concerns raised with the Xeon E5-2600 family were centered on the costs and resources to implement, including tests and evaluation. Respondents were less concerned with the potential of significant application rewrite/revisions and incompatibility with existing compilers, libraries, and profiler tools.
