Kove XPD L2 Sets 5μs Storage Latency Record
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Fri, May 25th, 2012
With six Mellanox 40Gb IB HCAs
Kove Corp., in high performance storage, announced at the grand opening of the Dell Solution Center in New York City, a first for low latency storage.
Using Mellanox Technologies, Inc.'s IB, the Kove XPD L2 storage has achieved continuous and sustained 5μs random storage read and write.
The XPD L2 provides the fast enterprise storage without constraints due to usable space or disk utilization.
Kove transforms memory into persistent storage, while others try to make flash storage perform like memory. The XPD L2 offers the lowest sustained latency available, not subject to periodic performance jitter or 'periodicity'. Even under constantly changing disk utilization, it delivers uniform, predictable, and deterministic performance.
The record-setting 5μs latency can remove storage bottlenecks, reduce I/O wait time, and saturate the fastest CPUs. Using conventional network meshes, organizations can scale storage linearly to achieve any performance or capacity level. For example, four XPD L2 appliances can consistently and predictably deliver more than 46 million I/Os per second and 100 gigabytes per second throughput. Jobs that used to take hours can complete in minutes or even seconds.
Organizations can accelerate ingest, financial services, databases, business analytics, and batch jobs, among others.
The XPD L2 achieved 5 microsecond latency with six Mellanox ConnectX-2, 40Gb/s IB HCAs, serving block storage via an IB fabric. R Systems NA, Inc. provided equipment for the tests.
"The Kove XPD L2 is a continuation of our leadership in high performance storage. It allows high performance applications to use storage as a weapon rather than accept it as a handicap," states John Overton, Kove CEO. "We are pleased to set a new bar height for storage latency."
"We are pleased to support Kove in building a world-leading RDMA-based storage solution," said Amir Prescher, VP of Business Development at Mellanox. "By taking advantage of IB's inherent efficiencies and Mellanox's advanced offloading and RDMA technology, Kove is able to eliminate interconnect bottlenecks and demonstrate leading storage throughput and low-latency capabilities that accelerate application performance for financial services' customers."
